If, like me, you absolutely loved Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin, then you were surely glad to hear that Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson were working on a sequel. However, it has been a while since we saw Tintin and, with no filming having taken place yet and both producers/directors being busy, people (ie me) were getting anxious. But Spielberg has come to put that to rest and give us hope in seeing the sequel soon enough, still.
In a recent interview, the Spielberg himself reiterated a story that we ran last year about The Adventures of Tintin sequel beginning performance capture this year. Spielberg has come out and reconfirmed that he and Jackson will indeed begin the performance capture at the end of this year. Furthermore, he’s gone on to give an estimated release date.
Peter Jackson is directing the next one, I’m producing. We have a script and we’re going to start performance capture probably at the end of this year. Don’t hold me to it, but we’re hoping the film will come out around Christmas-time in 2015. We know which books we’re making, we can’t share that now but we’re combining two books which were always intended to be combined by Herge.
No exact idea on what two books he’s referring to, but speculation has been that Seven Crystal Balls and Prisoners of the Sun will be the basis for The Adventures of Tintin 2.
To top that off, the producer has seemingly confirmed a third Tintin movie, stating that The Blue Lotus would be the basis for the third film in the franchise. So, not only will we get the sequel, but a third as well. Consider me a happy camper at this point.
