It looks like Matt Reeves is making a move to reunite with an actor for his upcoming movie Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the sequel to 2011′s Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Previously, it was announced that Reeves would be re-teaming with his Let Me In star Kodi Smit-McPhee for this movie. Now he’s adding another actor he’s previously worked with.
Keri Russell has signed on to play the female lead in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Russell and Reeves previously worked together on the TV show Felicity, which Russell starred in and Reeves was the co-creator of.
Russell joins Kodi Smit-McPhee in the cast, along with Jason Clarke and Gary Oldman. And, of course, Andy Serkis will be reprising his role as Caesar.
No additional details were given about Keri Russell’s character other than she would be a lead. At this point, though, we do know that Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will take place about a decade after Rise of the Planet of the Apes. It will be centered on humans struggling to live in a ruined world, while Caesar tries to control and command his growing ape civilization.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is set to release in theaters on May 23, 2014.
