In 2004, we were introduced to Ron Burgundy and what an introduction it was. Arguably, one of Will Ferrell’s best movies, Anchorman was absolutely hilarious and full of side-splitting laughs. So, I was absolutely thrilled when Anchorman 2 was announced last year, now going by the title Anchorman: The Legend Continues. We now have some new casting news for the movie.
Reports say that James Marsden has signed on to play a key role in Anchorman: The Legend Continues. We haven’t heard much about the movie as the team behind it have been keeping things pretty much under wraps. But according to reports, Marsden is going to be playing a news anchor as well, the new rival to Ron Burgundy.
This is the first real bit we’ve heard about Anchorman: The Legend Continues, other than knowing that Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, and David Koechner are all reprising their roles.
Not long ago, Applegate also let it slip that Kristen Wiig will be joining the cast.
Now, the Wiig casting I can get behind. I’m pretty skeptical about Marsden’s casting here, though. I don’t have a problem with the guy, but he’s never struck me as being even remotely funny. And when you’re sharing screen time with people like Ferrell and company, you definitely need to bring the funny. I’m suspecting Marsden could be a serious weak link in this comedic line-up. Let’s just hope it’s not a weak enough link to ruin anything.
Anchorman: The Legend Continues is looking to kick off filming this March in Atlanta. The movie is being directed by Adam McKay and is scheduled for a December 20, 2013 release.
