Zombie movie fans perk up your ears, as Entertainment One has another one to add to the list. War of the Dead sees armies of zombies taking part in World War II (something we’re not entirely new to). The movie is set to release on DVD and Blu-ray on January 8, 2013.
AintItCoolNews.com says it’s “like an episode of Band of Brothers…with zombies.” Meanwhile, Fandango says it “mixes slices of The Guns of Navaronne and The Dirty Dozen with Day of the Dead”. Sounds like it could at least be mildly amusing for all of us zombie fans, that just enjoy seeing some flesh-eating carnage and action.
March 1941. Captain Martin Stone (Andrew Tiernan) is leading a finely-trained platoon of American soldiers on a mission to destroy an enemy bunker, joining forces with an elite platoon of Finnish soldiers led by Captain Niemi (Jouko Ahola) and Lieutenant Laasko (Mikko Leppilampi). Underestimating their enemy’s strength, they are quickly beaten back into the forest. As they try to regroup, they’re suddenly attacked by the same soldiers they had just killed a few minutes earlier. Forced to flee deeper into Russian territory, they discover one of war’s most terrifying secrets and realize that they have woken up an enemy far deadlier than ever before imagined.
War of the Dead is directed by Marko Mäkilaakso. The movie stars Andrew Tiernan (300, The Pianist, and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), Mark Wingett (Snow White and the Huntsman) and Jouko Ahola (Kingdom of Heaven, Invincible).
