Word has come out that Paul Lieberstein is stepping down as the showrunner for The Office. Lieberstein, who plays Toby, currently heads the writing staff and produces the show. However, he’s on his way out and NBC is frantically in search of a replacement.
A while back it was made known that Lieberstein wants to work on an Office spin-off title The Farm. The spin-off would focus on the Schrute Farm. It’s said that Lieberstein is stepping down from running The Office so that he can focus more on The Farm and getting it off the ground.
In unrelated deals, co-star Mindy Kaling and writer Daniel Chun could both potentially have a limited future with the show as well. Each have their own project in the works that could see them cutting ties with The Office.
It’s looking like the network’s #1 rated comedy series is slowly falling apart. It will be interesting to see how things play out and what the future holds for The Office.
We’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
