New Clip and TV Spot for ‘The Hunger Games’

If you don’t know what The Hunger Games is by now, I’ll assume you’ve been living under a rock. Buzz has been growing for this movie a lot lately, partly thanks to a great marketing campaign from Lionsgate. This action drama, adapted from a book by the same name, sees Katniss Everdeen fighting for survival as she’s pitted against other teens in a fight to the death all for a TV show.

Originally, I had no interest in this really. However, I have to say that the more I see, the more hyped I am about it. Frankly, I can’t wait to see it later this month. For now, we have a couple videos for you. The first is a clip in what appears to be a “meet the contestants” type of rubbing-elbows party where Katniss really wants to make her presence known. Secondly, we have a new TV spot that should be making the rounds soon. Check the videos out below.

Synopsis:

In a not-too-distant future, North America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem. The 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss’ young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district’s female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart Peeta, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives.

The Hunger Games is directed by Gary Ross, from a script he wrote with the author of the book, Suzanne Collins. The movie stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland.

The Hunger Games hits theaters on March 23rd.

Hi Josh, I wasn’t interested in this initially either but then I read the book just out of curiosity and really like the premise.

I think the casting of Jennifer Lawrence is spot on and so far the trailer and this clip look quite promising. The supporting cast is great as well, I didn’t realize Stanley Tucci is in it too which is always a good sign.

I won’t read the books because I’m already sold on watching the movies. I really don’t want to “spoil” things by reading the books before watching the movies. I do know people that have read the books, though, and they loved them.

I’ve definitely been convinced at this point, though, and this is one of my more anticipated movies of the year.
