‘Blind Side’ Director Making a Movie Based on the Creation of ‘Mary Poppins’

Reports indicate that Blind Side director John Lee Hancock is in talks to direct Saving Mr. Banks for Disney. The movie comes from a Black List script by Kelly Marcel. It tells the story of everything Walt Disney went through to finally get the film rights to create the Mary Poppins movie.
Disney, obviously, were the ones who originally made the Mary Poppins movie. Thus, it seems only right that this Black List script would be snagged up by the studio. The script tells the story of P.L. Travers, who wrote the “Mary Poppins” book. It goes into detail about the ups and down of her business relationship with Walt Disney, even all the way through the filming and release of Mary Poppins.
This is apparently a big project and one to look out for. There are even rumors of Tom Hanks to play Walt Disney himself. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
