‘The Artist’ Comes to DVD and Blu-ray This April

The Artist has been hugely praised and is up for tons of Oscars this Sunday (where it will probably win more than any other film this year). Quite honestly, all of those nominations (and soon-to-be awards) are well-deserved. The movie is an absolutely brilliant cinematic experiment. Yes, cinematic experiment. On the level of being a movie, it’s still very entertaining, but it’s a very niche title. Anybody who isn’t a fan of early cinema or a film buff, probably won’t enjoy this. But whether you enjoy it or not, there’s no denying this was brilliantly crafted.

Now, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have set a DVD and Blu-ray release date for the brilliant The Artist. The likely Best Picture film will hit DVD and Blu-ray on April 24th, 2012. The release will come with a Q&A with the cast and crew. It will also feature a gag reel and a couple behind-the-scenes featurettes.

The Artist is a silent film about a seasoned silent film star, George Valentin. As the talkies begin to arrive, Valentin is left to wonder what his future in the movie business will amount to and if he’ll be forced out and fade away as audiences turn away from silent films.

The Artist was directed and written by Michel Hazanavicius. The movie stars Jean Dujardin, Bérénice Bejo, James Cromwell and John Goodman.
