Michael Fassbender has been one busy man the past couple of years. From Inglourious Basterds and First Class to Shame and Haywire, he’s quickly becoming a very big name in Hollywood. Furthermore, he’ll be returning to play Magneto in the First Class Sequel. Now we can add another film to his plate for the future.
Reports say that Fassbender is teaming up with writer Ronan Bennett to create a movie based on the Celtic hero Cú Chulainn. Fassbender plans to play the lead role in the movie once it gets off the ground.
Cú Chulainn is a legendary mythological hero in Irish folklore. He appears in the stories of the Ulster Cycle. These stories will be the focus of the film, though no definitive detail is given about which story/stories the film will focus on. One of the most known stories of the hero is that of ‘Cattle Raid of Cooley’, in which our young hero single-handedly defeats an entire army.
Cú Chulainn is often compared to Achilles for his adventures. Though, obviously, Fassbender can’t play the hero in the above story as he’s too old to play a teenager. So, we’ll either see a span of stories across his life, or a story from his latter years.
