The Bourne franchise was utterly awesome and kicked all kinds of ass. Matt Damon created an awesome character with his portrayal of Jason Bourne. So, when I first heard a new Bourne movie was being made, I was excited. But then my excitement waned when I found out Matt Damon would not return; nor would Paul Greengrass. Instead, we came to find out that Jeremy Renner would be taking over the reigns of the franchise.
First Renner takes over Mission: Impossible duty, now he’ll lead The Bourne Legacy. What the hell? Renner better have sent his agent one hell of a Christmas present to thank him for all the work he got Renner. Moves like this and the man will become one of the most notable action heroes around.
That said, I still don’t know how I feel about a Bourne movie without Matt Damon. Jeremy Renner will not be playing the Bourne character, however. He’ll be playing the role of Aaron Cross, another super-spy in the same universe. So, kind of a Bourne 2.0. The good thing: Tony Gilroy is back. As writer of the first three movies, he’s returning and will write and direct this fourth installment.
Now, we have our first trailer for the movie, too, to give us an idea of how the Bourne world will be sans-Damon. Check it out below and let me know what you think.
