David Chase announced today that he will be taking his talent from the television to the big screen as he’s set to make his feature film debut. David Chase previously gained acclaim for creating the hit HBO series The Sopranos. He will be partnering again with Paramount to bring his first film to the big screen. The untitled project is being described as a “music-driven coming of age story set in 1960′s suburbia”.
To add to the expertise behind the film and contribute to the music aspect, Chase has brought Steven Van Zandt along to help. Van Zandt will be producing and supervising the music of this music-driven story. Chase and Van Zandt worked together before on The Sopranos.
Along with the official announcement of the movie, Chase has also announced members of the cast. Joining The Sopranos’ creator for his big screen debut will be: John Magaro, Jack Huston and Will Brill. Paramount Vantage will be releasing the movie.
Chase and Paramount seem to be building a close business relationship. Both parties are excited about once again working with each other. Chase explains that he’s excited to, once again, be working with Paramount’s Brad Grey. As well, he seems happy to be working with Van Zandt again. In a statement, he states he’s thrilled about the collaboration, “especially on this particular subject”. Going on to explain Van Zandt’s importance to this film, Chase states that “it’s that he obviously knows so much. About every aspect. He embodies a particular spirit of a particular kind of rock and roll. He actually is that spirit”.
Paramount CEO Brad Grey also seems to be excited for the duo and about the project. When questioned about Chase, Grey replied: “He is a gifted story-teller and a great friend. His talent, along with Steven’s, promises something uniquely insightful and entertaining. We are all looking forward to a great picture and I am personally looking forward to working with them both again.”
Magaro can be seen in theaters now in the movie My Soul To Take. While Brill is making his debut on the big screen, the third star, Huston, can be seen in the hit Twilight Saga: Eclipse. The untitled project was written by Chase and he will direct and produce it. Along with him, Mark Johnson (Rain Man, The Chronicles of Narnia)will be helping in the producing role. Paramount is set to release the film, which will begin filming January 2011.
