MTV Movie Awards Nominees Announced
By Josh Lyons on May 04, 2011 with Comments 9
Votes are in for the 2011 MTV Movie Awards and the nominees for this year have been named. Leading the pack with the most nominations is Twilight: Eclipse. I guess that’s very telling of how seriously this awards show can really be taken. But, the fans have spoken and the glittery vampires have some serious mass appeal. Not far behind, though, is Nolan’s Inception picking up 7 nominations (behind Eclipse‘s 8). Meanwhile, Harry Potter, The Social Network and Black Swantrail just behind those two, with all five being the nominees for “Best Movie”.
Yes, it’s a sad state of affairs when Eclipse is competing alongside such films as the others mentioned in a “Best Movie” race. You think that’s bad, though? Wait until you see some of the other nominees. For instance, Jennifer Aniston (Just Go With It) competing against Natalie Portman (Black Swan) for “Best Actress”. Or there’s also Pattinson and Lautner from Eclipse getting “Best Actor” nods alongside Radcliffe and Eisenberg. Of course MTV does provide some very quirky categories as well, which provide some interesting and somewhat entertaining moments. Like Steve-O receiving a nomination for his Port-A-Potty stunt in Jackass 3D or Portman and Kunis getting a nod for “Best Kiss”.
Voting on the winners opened today and will last until June 4th. You can head over and make your vote at the awards show’s official site HERE. As stated, voting will end on June 4th, with the exception of the “Best Movie” category which will be open for voting all the way through the ceremony up until time to give out the award.
The 2011 MTV Movie Awards will air live on June 5th at 9PM ET. Saturday Night Live‘s Jason Sudeikis will be the honest for the event this year.

I think the MTV viewers will choose The Social Network as the best picture this year.
I would say Potter and especially Inception stand as good a chance.
Wahoo! Congrats on Inception. I hope it’ll win Best Picture too, though you’re right Social Network probably will get that one. I LOVE that line from Tom Hardy “You mustn’t be afraid to dream a little bigger darling.” I always get a chuckle every time! I Twilight will come out empty handed, I mean come on, they’re not even in the same league as Inception. But who am I kidding, it’s MTV after all
You’re right, it’s MTV so there’s no telling what may happen. And not just MTV, but MTV fan-voting.
That being said, I almost want to say Inception stands a better chance than The Social Network. Maybe I’m just out of the loop or whatever you want to call it, but when I think “MTV viewers” I think “stupid teenagers”. For that reason, The Social Network might be a bit too “sophisticated” (for lack of better word) to them. Whereas Inception is a good action thriller, and even if they don’t get it, they can still be dazzled by the pretty pictures.
I do like that Tom Hardy line as well. But I also like that line there from Easy A. Thought that was pretty funny in the movie (which I just finally got around to watching the other day).
And finally, I seriously doubt Twilight will walk away empty-handed. I just don’t see all the teenage girls of America letting that happen. Best Kiss maybe? As much of a travesty as it would be, I wouldn’t even count the Twilight cast members out when it comes to Best Actor/Actress awards.
I love that the fight between Adams and the sisters is included.
Yea, that was one I didn’t even think of initially when I saw that category name, then was like “yea, that’s a pretty good choice”. Though, I still think hands-down Inception should win.
It’s MTV. Eclipse will probably take just about every award that it can, with the exception of Best Picture and maybe Best Fight. Yawn.
Possibly. Never can take the awards at the show serious. Though the showmanship of it can provide a few interesting/entertaining moments. Plus possibly some cool trailers.
It will be interesting to see if Twilight just sweeps another year. I really hope it doesn’t though.
